CFA PROGRAM DEFERRAL PROCESS

This Self Assessment tool will help you determine if you may qualify for a refund, deferral, withdrawal, special accommodations or a test center change.

IMPORTANT TERMS:

  • Refund – a full refund of your enrollment and registration fees, available within three (3) calendar days of payment if you change your mind.
  • Qualified Deferral – deferrals of your enrollment and registration status to the next available exam (considered on a case-by-case basis for specific circumstances).
  • Withdrawal – cancelling of CFA Program registration is available for all three levels. All fees are forfeited.
  • Special Accommodations – CFA Institute offers disability and religious testing accommodations. A disability accommodation allows candidates to take the exam in a manner and location accessible to individuals with documented disabilities. A religious accommodation allows candidates to take the exam on a religious alternate date if a religious obligation or belief prevents candidates from sitting on the regularly scheduled date.
  • Test Center Change – change your test area from what was selected during registration. Changes of test centers within the same metropolitan area are not considered.

One of the following conditions applies to me and it has been more than 3 days since I completed my registration:

  • A life threatening or very serious illness to me or a member of my immediate family

  • Current pregnancy (self)

  • A death in the immediate family

  • Mandatory military service on day of the exam

If it has been less than three days since you completed your registration, you may qualify for a refund per the Refund Policy. To request a refund, please visit your online account within three days of registration. Once in “My Account,” select your program tile to locate the refund request option.

Test Center Change Requests are approved based on availability. Requests for an alternate test center within the same metropolitan area will not be accepted. Is it BEFORE the deadline listed on the Exam Calendar for test center change requests?

Please submit a written request for a deferral to info@cfainstitute.org and include your full name and CFA Institute ID number. Only submit one request per exam cycle. We evaluate deferral requests on a case-by-case basis and there’s no guarantee that a request will be granted.
