Apparently, a financial arrangement in which members form an asset pool and agree to receive payouts from it while living and to forfeit their accounts upon death (i.e., a tontine) is an interesting idea in Hollywood (The Tontine) as well as investment management. However, in the RF publication Tontines: A Practitioner’s Guide to Mortality-Pooled Investments by Richard K. Fullmer, CFA, no one actually dies.
